Based on my experiences, we have to be able to create ‘good movement’ and ‘soft news’ to publish sexuality through media. 1) The first, When I worked for newspaper and magazine among seven years old, the focus of my coverage is nor far from sexuality, which is connected with entertainment and lifestyle in the city of Jakarta. For example, when I worked for the Berita Yudha & Media Indonesia —newspaper daily, or magazine, such as Popular & Matra —two of them is entertainment magazine for men and very popular in Indonesia, I wrote many article about sexual issues. But, I found my problem, espially, to use the language of sexuality. For example : I can’t use/mention word of Penis or Vagina. My editor, use the inisial thing : Penis is Mr. Big, the banana or Mr. Jhony. Vagina is V, Miss Vegy, etc. I can’t describe sexual expression/activity, such as describing the kissing, foreplay, intercousing, etc. in my article. Oh, God. Gime me free-space to write… Because at that time and I think until now : Sex is taboo. Sex is something we don’t have to talk and discuss. * 2) So, Is Number two, When I decide to write my book : Jakarta Undercover and I published on 2002, - I choose a title with English Language : Jakarta Undercover. For me, it’s cool. - I used many English language to describe the sexual activity. And offcourse, use the initial or metaphor language. Such as : Making Love with full body contact, Buah Dada = bukit kembar (boobs), to mention sex = X symbol (such as massage XXX, sauna XXX, doing XXX activity, etc) or use ++ symbol (sauna ++, girls ++, massage boy ++, etc. - The other thing, I wrote my book with light-head-line. Why? I realized, before there is no book with subject matter is sexual life. Most people can’t except the sexual- material - I wrote about (1) the prostitution : \what’ happened? Who are they? (2) the community who celebrate their sex-expressio or celebrate the sex-pleasure. * Side-effect : I was surprised, my book being a best seller, and make the people ‘shock’. It’s really happened? Is it true what I have wrote? Etc. They don’t believe Jakarta is a big city with the big sex-industry. They always asking : is that true or only fantasy? - More than 3 hundred thousand copies for 2 years. - People get attention with my book. And the same time, all the media’s in Indonesia, coverage my book as the headline. - I remebered, when I was hosted The Nitelife-program on Metro TV (one of news TV in Jakarta), I’ve got more than 400.000 SMS (short message service) and 200.000 phones among one hour and a half running the program. - For 1 year, people and media still get attention with my book. TV, Radio, etc. universities, muslim organizatation, and the last : the government (parlement). * For me, it’s amazing. Coz, I can talk sexuality in everywhere. And at the same time, more than 5 TV station lauch the sexuality program, And at 2003-2004, I was become one of the presenter at RCTI (number one TV in Indonesia) with SILET program (coverage nightlife, sexual issues and entertainment, such as : transgender, LGBT, sex party community, etc. ) But some of my material has being CENCORED by the government through the department of Ministry of Communication and Information. There are many rules in my country : - Do not show the lip-kissing in the media - Do not dress up too sexy (such as bikini, under-wear, lingerie, - Do not talk dirty. 3) Radio : In 2005-2006, I was an announcer in one of young radio in Jakarta. Guystalk. The subject matter is all about sex…they had a free space to talk… But, the government through in the name of Islamic Organization, MUI (Committee of Indonesia Ulama, religion leader’s) government representative, send me a warning letter to stop my program. 4) Movie : My movie : Jakarta Undercover was recently released on April 2007.
